Hello everybody! My name is Connie and I am the Regional Marketing Manager for South America. As most of you may know, Langports will open a new campus in Darling Harbour on the 1st of September. Although I live in Brisbane, I love to visit Sydney and it’s a great place for international students to improve their English and experience Australia. Sydney is rated as one of the most livable cities in the world! It’s a vibrant city and after a challenging day of studying English you will find many fun and exciting things to do. Meeting friends and exploring the city will help you continue improving your English outside the classroom. To help you find the best things to do in Sydney, here are my top 10:
Take a ride on the ferry. You can discover so many places in Sydney and see the best view of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The journey from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay is one of the most beautiful and you will never get sick of it! I also love to take the ferry over to Manly Beach.
2. Visit the Sydney Tower
Sydney Tower is Sydney’s tallest building and the second tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere. You will have exceptional views from the city from up there. It’s definitely a must! But don’t forget your camera!
3. The Rocks Discovery MuseumThe Rocks Discovery Museum is situated in the heart of the Rocks. You will learn the story of the Rocks area from pre-European days to present. It only takes about 1 hour to visit this museum and it is well worth it.
The Vivid Sydney Festival is held every year in May. Vivid Sydney is a unique event of light, music and ideas, featuring an outdoor ‘gallery’ of extraordinary lighting sculptures. Walking around the city at night, you will see some spectacular illuminations including the Sydney Opera House sails.
5. Sea Life Aquarium
If you have a little time to spare you should really visit the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium. There are many exotic, Australian fish and sea creatures on display. You will learn a lot about their way of living and their native environment. I would advise you to go during times that are not so popular like very early mornings or later in the day so that you can enjoy your visit even more.
6. Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk
The walk from Bondi to Coogee is a 6 kilometre cliff top coastal walk. The Bondi to Coogee walk features stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. The beaches and parks offer a place to rest, swim or a chance to eat at one of the cafes, hotels, restaurants or takeaways.
7. Chinese Garden of friendship
The Chinese Garden is only a 5 minute walk from the Langports Sydney campus. It is such a b eautiful and peaceful place to hang out and relax while still being in the middle of Sydney. If you wish, you can even dress up in historical costumes and take some photos with Chinese buildings in the background.
8. Blue Mountains day trip
Not far from Sydney are the beautiful Blue Mountains. Take a day or even a weekend to travel up there and enjoy the bush and amazing view of the “Three Sisters”. Also while you’re there, check out Scenic World and take the steepest incline railway in Australia or the Skyway for amazing views!! Also, not far from the Blue Mountains is a place called Jenolan Caves — if you would like to explore 11 spectacular caves, with pure underground rivers this is for you!
9. Go to the beach
Sydney has some amazing beaches! As I mentioned before there is Bondi & Coogee beach on the south shore, but also on the north shore of Sydney there are some beaches — the most popular one is Manly. If you take the ferry to Manly, make sure you also go for a walk in Sydney Harbour National Park on the Fairfax Walking Track.
10. Visit Taronga Zoo
For all the animal lovers, Taronga Zoo is just 12 minutes from the city by ferry, with breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour. You will get a chance to see free shows and keeper talks throughout the day. You can see Australian native animals like kangaroos, koalas and emus, as well as non-native animals like giraffes and elephants (and many more!).
As you can see, Sydney has it all! You can combine your English study with so many activities! You will never be bored!
