There’s Nothing Like A Coffee And A Good Book

18.07.2012

Hello and thank you for reading my blog! I’m Rachel and I work in the marketing department here at Langports. My official title is Regional Marketing Manager for Asia (that’s quite a mouthful). I would have to say the best part of my job is speaking with students who are really excited, knowing they are about to pursue their ‘study English’ dreams in Australia. I’m originally from the UK and immigrated to Brisbane a little over 3 years ago. During my ‘settling in and making new friends’ period I was often asked to catch up over coffee. Australia sure loves its coffee and so do I. 🙂

One day while exploring Brisbane’s coffee shop scene I stumbled upon a great coffee and bookstore cafe and the rest as they say is history.

I often spend many Sunday mornings’ cosying up to my large skinny latte with my head in a good book. Nothing beats the smell of roasted coffee, whispered conversations from the variety of people who are sipping on their chosen blend whilst enjoying the Sunday papers or the next big read. J

So if you like books, and especially drinking coffee while reading books, Brisbane is a must. Here are my favourite must visits….

The Avid Reader café in Westend

This friendly store is very popular — so warm and inviting and located in Brisbane’s buzzing Westend (a great spot to people watch). They also offer yummy ‘reading food’ I always opt for the raisin toast. I just hope your buttery fingers don’t smudge the pages. 🙂

Mary Ryan’s in Milton

They offer a literary experience to customers and promote if books are your passion, music your solace and coffee your simplest pleasure, they can offer all three. (I also recommend their variety of yummy pastries).

Black Cat Books in Paddington

BCB’s offers an eclectic collection of books and their café is a great place to head after a day of wondering around the vintage shops in Paddington. For those non-coffee fans the Hot Chocolate certainly contends with Brisbane’s famous bald guys variety (Max Brenner). 🙂

So get visiting, it’s a great way to practise your English skills and meet new people.

Happy Reading and Coffee Drinking. 🙂
