Overcoming Language Learning Challenges!

02.06.2025

Learning English is a journey filled with exciting milestones, but it’s not without its challenges!

At Langports, we’ve helped thousands of students from around the world improve their English skills, and we understand the obstacles that can arise along the way.

Here are three common challenges when learning English and how you can overcome them!

Fear of Speaking

Many students feel shy or nervous when speaking English, especially in front of native speakers.

It may sound obvious, but the only way you are going to improve is to keep practicing speaking as much as you can – focus on communication and not perfection!

At Langports we have an ‘English Only’ policy, meaning that all of our students are required to speak in English on our campus.

Remember your classmates and peers at Langports probably feel the same as you, and everyone is there to learn and make mistakes!

Understanding different accents!

It is quite common that non-native speakers of English can struggle to understand certain accents such as the Aussie one.

The speed, slang and pronunciation can differ between each speaker.

A fun way to work on your understanding is to watch an Aussie tv show or listen to podcast/radio. The more you listen to the accent the easier it is to become accustomed to it.

Staying Motivated

Learning English or any foreign language for that matter can be exhausting.

It is totally normal to feel tired or discouraged sometimes.

A way to overcome this could be to practice English in ways that you forget that you are even learning!

For example, you could treat yourself to a delicious local meal for lunch – meaning you get to enjoy the experience and also practice your English when you order.

Every English learner faces challenges, but with the right strategies and support, you can overcome them.

At Langports, we’re here to help you every step of the way with personalized learning, a supportive community, and plenty of opportunities to practice and grow.
